If you're creating a fundraising video, you already know how important it is to make donating feel effortless.
You can add a donation link in your video description — and maybe a pinned comment, too.
But most people won’t scroll. Many won’t even see it.
That means you’re leaving potential donations on the table.
What actually works better is placing the Donate Now button right on the video itself.
The viewer watches your message, feels the impact, and sees a clear way to give — no searching, no second steps.
So how do you make that happen?
In this guide, you’ll learn how to design a donation-ready video using Doodly, and add a clickable Donate button that lives on top of your video — fully visible and interactive.
No complex setup. No coding. Just a few simple steps to turn your video into a direct, action-driving experience.
If you can upload an image and copy a link, you're more than ready to do this.
Let’s walk through how it’s done.
Before adding a clickable button, you’ll need a video to attach it to — and for that, you’ll use Doodly.
Let’s walk through a sample setup.
In this example, you’re creating a video for a nonprofit campaign.
The goal is simple: get viewers to donate after watching.
To support that, your final scene should give the Donate Now button space to stand out clearly.
To plan your layout, start by uploading a Donate Now image into Doodly.
You can grab a free version from sites like Freepik or Pixabay, then import it into your asset library.
Drag it into your final scene as a placeholder while you design the layout around it.
This image won’t be clickable — you’ll replace it later in Voomly. But using it now helps you build your scene with the right spacing.
Once the button is in place, adjust your characters, text, and background to frame the call to action.
You want the button to be visible, clear, and not crowded by other elements.
After you’ve finished arranging your scene, it’s time to remove the placeholder image.
As mentioned earlier, this version of the Donate Now button is just for layout purposes.
You’ll be adding the actual clickable version inside Voomly — so to keep your video clean and distraction-free, delete the placeholder before exporting.
Once that’s done, open the Scene Settings for your final scene.
Since removing the image slightly shortens your scene’s duration, you’ll want to add extra time back in.
Adding around 10 seconds ensures the real button you’ll insert later in Voomly has enough time to appear and stay visible long enough for viewers to take action.
With that done, you're ready to export your video. Click the Export button at the top left of your Doodly editor.
In the popup window, select the Upload to Voomly tab (not “Save to computer”).
Then choose your preferred resolution — 720p works fine for most fundraising content — and hit Export.
Yes, that's right. We're sending the video straight into a tool that will make it interactive — no downloads, no third-party apps, no messy workarounds and that is Voomly.
Doodly and Voomly are both powerful on their own. Doodly helps you tell a clear, visual story. Voomly takes that story and turns it into an experience your viewer can act on.
When used together, they do more than create animated videos — they create interactive content that converts. You’re not just sharing information. You’re guiding your viewers toward a specific action at the exact moment they’re ready to take it.
And the best part? The whole process stays in your control. No ads, no distractions, no hoping someone finds the link in your description.
Once the upload finishes, close the window and head to the top right corner of Doodly. Click the cloud icon to open your freshly exported video in Voomly.
Once your video opens in Voomly, you’ll land on the Video Drive page where all your uploaded videos live.
Locate the one you just exported from Doodly.
If you're using Grid View, hover over the video and click the three dots in the upper-right corner. Then choose Customize video player.
This opens Voomly’s editing panel, where you’ll set up your interactive Donate Now button.
Inside the customization screen, head to the Interactions tab on the left. This is where you’ll find interactive tools like button, image, text, annotation, image annotation, quiz, turnstile, chapter and the share button.
Before adding anything, move the playhead in your timeline to the exact moment where you want the Donate Now button to appear.
In this example, we placed the button shortly after a drawn arrow points to a blank space — a natural moment to prompt viewers to take action.
Once your playhead is in the right spot, go back to the Interactions tab. Find Image, then drag and drop it onto the video canvas. This creates an image placeholder on the screen and a new interaction on your timeline.
You can rename the image interaction if you’d like — it helps keep things organized, especially if you add more elements later.
With the image placeholder added to your video, it’s time to set up what happens when someone clicks it.
Start by selecting the Image Interaction on your timeline. On the right-hand menu, you’ll see an Action section.
By default, the "On Click" setting is set to Do Nothing — which, of course, we want to change.
Open the On Click dropdown and choose Open URL. Then paste the link you want to direct viewers to.
This could be:
Basically, wherever you want them to complete the donation process.
Below the URL field, there are a few more optional settings. You can:
You can leave these at their default settings unless you want a specific visual behavior. In this tutorial, we’ll keep them as-is.
Now it’s time to upload the real Donate Now button image.
Click the Upload Image option. Find the image file you used earlier as a placeholder in Doodly (or upload a new one).
Once uploaded, the placeholder on your video will be replaced with your actual button.
Resize the image by dragging the bottom-right corner of the image on the canvas. You can also move the button by clicking the top-right icon and dragging it to the spot you want.
Once you’re happy with the size and placement, preview the result. Move the playhead just a bit earlier in the timeline, click play, and check how it looks when the button appears.
When it feels right, hit Save in the upper-right.
Now that your button is active and clickable, it’s time to put your video out into the world.
In the top-right corner of the Voomly editor, click the Share button (right next to Save). This opens a panel with several sharing options, depending on how and where you want your video to appear.
You've got a few solid choices:
A. Share the Voomly video page
Just copy the link and share it anywhere — email, social, messaging apps, or your website.
The page will play your video with the Donate Now button layered directly on top. No extra setup needed.
B. Embed it on your website
If you want the video to live on your site, use the embed code.
You can choose between a script embed or an iframe, depending on what your website builder supports.
Paste the code into your site’s HTML or embed module, and the video will play exactly as designed — button and all.
This is one of the biggest benefits of using Voomly over YouTube or other hosting platforms.
With Voomly, you’re not relying on a text description or pinned comment to drive action. The Donate Now button is right there, front and center, when it matters most.
Once you've added your Donate Now button, you’re only scratching the surface of what Voomly can do.
The Interactions tab includes a full set of tools designed to help you increase engagement, capture leads, and keep viewers active throughout your video.
The Button interaction adds a prominent, clickable button directly on top of your video. It can open a URL, resume playback, or close the video when used in a modal setup. This is perfect for strong calls-to-action — like “Sign Up Now,” “Book a Call,” or “Download Here.”
If your video has a clear next step, this makes sure your viewers know exactly what to do next without having to look elsewhere.
The Text interaction lets you add simple, non-clickable text anywhere in your video. It’s great for highlighting short messages, reinforcing key terms, or guiding attention to something onscreen.
If you want to clarify a visual, reinforce a stat, or show a quick reminder without interrupting the video, this is an easy way to do it.
The Annotation interaction displays a small, dismissible text box in the top-left corner of your video. It can open a URL, dismiss itself, or simply stay as a gentle prompt.
This is useful for linking to related content, promoting a limited-time offer, or calling out a bonus — all without taking up space or distracting from your main message.
The Image Annotation interaction works just like the text version but allows you to use an image instead. This is great for branding — like adding a logo, event badge, or campaign symbol.
You can also link it out to a partner page, landing page, or any relevant site. It adds a professional layer to your video while still staying subtle.
The Image interaction gives you full control to place any image — like your Donate Now button — anywhere in the video. You can link it, resize it, and move it around the canvas.
This is the most flexible way to add custom CTAs that match your video’s tone, style, and timing. If you want viewers to click exactly when it matters, this is the tool you want.
The Share interaction adds clickable buttons that let viewers repost your video to Facebook, X (Twitter), or LinkedIn.
If your video is emotionally powerful, educational, or tied to a cause, this is how you help it spread. It turns your viewers into promoters — no extra effort required.
The Turnstile interaction locks a portion of your video and asks the viewer for their email before continuing. It’s a built-in lead capture tool that integrates with email platforms like Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, and others — or stores emails directly inside Voomly.
If you’re offering something valuable (like a free resource, exclusive info, or bonus content), this is one of the most effective ways to build your list while keeping your video content front and center.
The Quiz interaction lets you add multiple-choice questions during playback. You can test knowledge, get feedback, and even collect emails after the viewer submits their answers.
If your video is part of a course, training series, or onboarding flow — or if you just want to see how well your content is understood — this turns passive watching into active participation.
The Chapters interaction breaks your video into clickable sections. This is a must-have for long videos like webinars, tutorials, or presentations.
It helps viewers jump to what they need and keeps them from bouncing out when they’re trying to find specific content. It also shows that you respect their time — which builds trust.
You don’t have to use all these at once. But once your Donate Now button is live, try experimenting with other interactions that make your message more powerful.
If you’re used to uploading videos to YouTube, you might wonder: Why not just add the link in the description or pin a comment?
That works — but it’s not ideal.
Voomly gives you something YouTube doesn’t: on-video interaction.
Instead of sending viewers hunting for a link, you give them a button right on the video itself.
No distractions. No competing content. No ads. Just your message and a direct way to act on it.
Here’s what you avoid when you use Voomly instead of a public video platform:
And here’s what you gain:
If your goal is to increase conversions — whether that’s donations, sign-ups, or visits to your website — Voomly keeps people focused and gives them fewer chances to bounce.
And when you're ready to go beyond buttons, Voomly also lets you add quizzes, turnstiles, annotations, and chapter markers — all designed to keep your viewers engaged and interacting.
So if you’re serious about using video to raise funds, tell your story, or promote a cause, Voomly gives you the tools you need to make every second count.
Adding a Donate Now button is just the start. When you use Doodly and Voomly together, you're not just making videos — you're building something that can educate, convert, sell, train, and scale.
The magic happens when you realize these tools aren’t locked into one type of use. They're flexible. You can mix creativity and strategy however you want.
Here are just a few ideas:
Create a short whiteboard explainer in Doodly, then use Voomly to add a quiz, collect email addresses with a Turnstile, or link to a course signup page. It becomes more than a lesson — it becomes a funnel.
Show your process or explain your offer in Doodly. Then add buttons in Voomly to schedule a consultation, download a pricing guide, or visit your portfolio. No extra tools needed.
Repurpose your posts into animated videos, then embed them on your blog using Voomly. Add chapters to help with navigation, and CTA buttons to promote lead magnets or affiliate links.
Pair emotional storytelling with direct calls to action. Let viewers donate, volunteer, or share your message — all while the video is still playing. It turns passive views into immediate impact.
Use Doodly to break down a process or policy. Upload to Voomly, lock important content behind a Turnstile, and add chapter markers to make it easy for teams to review.
And if you're running a business? You can build an entire sales journey in minutes:
What you create doesn’t have to be long, polished, or perfect. It just needs to be strategic and clear. With Doodly and Voomly, you can make that happen without needing an agency or expensive software.
If you’ve only used these tools for basic explainer videos, now’s the time to rethink what they can do.
You're not limited by format — you're only limited by what you haven’t tried yet.
Publishing your video is only half the work. The real value shows up when you understand what happens after someone presses play — how long they watch, where they click, and when they drop off.
Voomly Cloud gives you built-in analytics that track it all in one place.
No need for separate tools, third-party setups, or guesswork. Every video you upload automatically comes with performance tracking, so you can see what’s working and what needs attention.
Here’s what you can monitor inside your dashboard:
See how many people are watching your video, and how those numbers trend over time. Use this to measure the success of your outreach or campaigns.
This shows how much of your video people are actually watching. Are they leaving after 10 seconds? Are they watching to the end? This metric helps you spot weak points in your script or visuals.
Every interaction you add — like your Donate Now button — can be tracked for clicks. If it’s not getting engagement, that’s your cue to rethink placement, timing, or design.
If you added a Turnstile to collect emails, Voomly will show you exactly how many viewers opted in, and at what point. This is especially useful if you’re building a donor list or offering gated content.
See how many viewers answer your quiz questions and what their responses are. Use this data to fine-tune your messaging or content clarity.
Voomly shows you where people stop watching — second by second. This helps you identify which parts of the video are losing attention, so you can shorten, adjust, or rewrite accordingly.
All of this is available from your Voomly Cloud dashboard, and if you’re using tools like Toonly, Talkia, or Doodly, you can easily go back, make edits, and reupload your updated video — no extra workflow needed.
This kind of built-in feedback loop means your video isn’t just “published and done.” It evolves. It gets better with each release. And you stay in control the entire time.
You’re not guessing anymore — you’re improving with real data, real feedback, and real results.
Adding a button to your video is simple. Getting people to actually click it? That takes strategy.
Voomly gives you the tools, but how you use them makes all the difference. Here are some proven tips to help your buttons and interactions work harder — without getting in the way of your message.
When done right, these small design choices add up to a better experience and better results. And because Voomly Cloud includes tools like People Builder (for custom characters) and Talkia (for voiceovers), you can build polished, branded content without outsourcing anything.
Your entire video funnel — from creation to interaction to conversion — is now under your control.
Let’s be real — most videos get skipped, muted, or forgotten. But not yours. Not if you build it with intention.
You just saw how easy it is to turn a basic Doodly animation into an interactive experience that leads somewhere. That does something.
That collects an email. Sparks a donation. Gets shared. Makes people act.
And you didn’t need a developer, agency, or fancy editing suite to pull it off.
You’ve got Doodly.
You’ve got Voomly.
You’ve got Voomly Cloud, with every tool you need already in it — voiceovers, custom characters, pro-level thumbnails, hosting, and interactions that work.
So here’s the real question:
Are you still just uploading videos — or are you finally ready to create something that moves people?
Your audience is watching.
The tools are in front of you.
The next step is yours.
