Hello Doodlers! As you all know, we release updates every now and then and in this blog, we will look at the recent updates Doodly had for the first quarter of 2021. You might’ve missed to check out these awesome updates so let’s go over them one by one.
If you had Doodly for quite some time now, I’m sure you will notice the new tab that has been added to the main page.
With the previous Doodly version, we only have Projects available on the Main Page where all the videos created are saved.
With the current version, as soon as you log in, you will see your Recent Videos and the Projects tab along with the new tab, Templates.
Also, you’ll notice that under Projects, you can now create folders and subfolders where you can organize your videos however you like.
You can drag and drop your videos into different folders and just like before, you can perform specific actions for your video such as Open, Rename, Duplicate and Delete.
The Templates tab contains all the free templates included in your Doodly package as well as your purchased templates.
When you get to the Edit Video page, you now have an option to select Save As. This works just like the duplicate option in the My Videos section.
Don’t worry, clicking Save As won’t require you to leave the video that you are currently working on.
It’s often helpful to save a copy with a new name for archival purposes. Also, if you’re planning on making some changes but you’re not sure if you’re going to like it, just hit Save As and go ahead with those changes. Don’t like the end result? No problem, just go back to the main page and open the original version.
Having Save As option allows you to create templates for your different projects. You can open the original file, then save it using a different file name. It’s a hassle-free and easy way of keeping your format intact.
Another recent update we had is for Fonts. If you recall, when you first purchased Doodly, there are only three fonts that came with it.
While you could, of course, add new fonts by clicking the “+” sign within the Fonts tab, Doodly now comes with dozens of pre-installed fonts.
They’re sorted in alphabetical order so if you know the font’s name, you can just scroll right down to it or if you have a specific one in mind, you can certainly just type it in.
Replacing your font style is now made easy. If you wish to update the font style of an existing text that is saved in your scene, all you have to do is choose your preferred font style, drag and drop it on top of your existing text.
You will see a pop-up message, “Are you going to release the font?”, choose “Yes, Replace” to apply the changes.
Here’s another fun update. While we can always change the color of your text, this time we can now change the color of individual words or even letters if you’d like.
Here’s how it’s done:
Another change has something to do with our drawing tools. We know that not all images have drawing paths. For those without it, by default, they are being scribbled with an up and down hand gesture and that obviously, is not a drawing gesture.
If you wish to add draw paths, you can definitely do so, but if you prefer not to and you want to get rid of the scribble effect, you can change the Draw gesture to Fade instead. That way, your image will just smoothly appear on your screen without the up and down hand stroke.
To access the reveal mode, all you need to do is click the image and select the pencil icon on top of your image. This will open the Edit Asset page. From there, locate the Reveal Mode then select Fade on the dropdown menu. Don’t forget to click Save & Return to save the changes made.
Still from the Edit Asset screen, you will also notice that the Background which is white by default can now be changed.
You can change it to Black or Transparent and this sometimes comes into play when you have an image that has a lot of white in it which when used with a white background just kind of disappears on the screen.
Or, if you’re concerned about the transparency surrounding it, you can select the transparent background. Changing these backgrounds can really help when you’re creating your draw paths.
If we go into Sounds, you’ll see under categories that we have a category for sound effects. You can scroll through the available sound effects until you find an effect that you’d like to use.
To add a sound effect, just drag and drop your selected track into your timeline and slide it to the point where you’d like the sound effect to come in.
If you already have an existing music track but wants to add a sound effect while music is playing, you can just click the three dots beside the volume icon within the timeline and add a track.
Here’s how it’s done:
We can also assign a sound effect to objects as they enter or exit our scene. Likewise, if you set the erase effect as your animation ending, you have the option to add a sound for that too.
And yes, looping your sound effect is an option.
When it comes to Hand Style, we still have, of course, the real hands, cartoon hands as well as the left-handed and right-handed hands, but we just added more hand styles!
In the previous Doodly versions, we used to have fewer hand options for dark chalkboard, green chalkboard, and glassboard but if you look at the table below, we’re keeping up with the whiteboard’s hand style count. These numbers may change as we continuously update the software and of course, we love updates!
Also, we now have 2D and 3G hands under Cartoon hands. More hand style options for us!
We hope you enjoy the new features. Be the first to capture all the latest updates by logging in to your Doodly software. Don’t have Doodly yet? It’s never too late to try, go ahead and hit the button below. Until next time! 🙂
